Course Description

In this course, Sr. Maria Rose Metzger, OP, examines the Council's document on Religious Life; Laura Gallant discusses the document on the Laity; Fr. David Loeffler looks at the decree ecumenism.

Sr. Maria Rose Metzger, OP

Sr. Maria Rose grew up in Harrisburg, PA, being the youngest of three siblings. In 2002, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist in Ann Arbor, MI where, in 2010, she has made her perpetual vows. She holds certifications in Elementary and Special Education, having taught in various grades at the elementary and high school levels since 2001. Sister has earned a Masters in Special Education and in Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her most recent degree is a Masters in Theological Studies from Providence College. Besides teaching in our apostolate and being a principal, Sr. Maria Rose has held other roles in her community as formator, local prioress of the Motherhouse, and Director of Education. Currently she is the local superior of the St. Thomas the Apostle Mission Convent and teaches Theology at St. Mary’s High School to Sophomores and Seniors.

Laura Gallant

Laura Gallant received a Master of Arts in Communication from the University of Illinois of Urbana-Champaign, and a Master of Theological Science from Franciscan University of Steubenville. She has enjoyed teaching a variety of university-level courses, and her research interests have included the nature of the Church as communion, learning and speaking English as a Second Language, and the intercultural communication patterns of students studying abroad. She worked for the Catechetical Institute at Franciscan University of Steubenville from 2016-2020, assisting with video editing and content creation for over 100 online catechetical workshops at www.franciscanathome.com. She currently serves as the Coordinator of Religious Education at St. Joan of Arc parish in Phoenix, AZ. Her hobbies include hiking, reading, and playing the violin.

Fr. David Loeffler

Fr. David Loeffler studied at Franciscan University of Steubenville, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in philosophy and theology and a Master of Arts in Philosophy with a concentration in bioethics. Afterwards, he entered seminary at the Pontifical College Josephinum, where he received an S.T.B., a Master of Divinity, and a Master of Theology. As a diocesan priest in active ministry, Fr. Loeffler is particularly interested in the spiritual implications of doctrine and doctrinal foundations of the spiritual life. He serves as the Chaplain of Bourgade Catholic High School, Pastor of Holy Spirit Newman Center, and Diocesan Director of Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs.
