Course Description
This course introduces the participant to the St. Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologica. A strong case can be made that St. Thomas Aquinas was the greatest theologian/philosopher who ever lived, and that his Summa Theologica is the best theological/philosophical work ever written. Certainly the Church, down though the ages, has considered Aquinas to be foremost among its Doctors. Aquinas was concerned not so much with what other philosophers had to say as with the truth of things, and his writings are characterized by their profound wisdom, common sense, and clarity. Nor has the passage of time dimmed their luster. Despite the fact that the Summa is a daunting work, it is possible, even in a brief course, to give an outline of it and to examine some of its fundamental parts. Hopefully the course may then inspire a further study of St. Thomas.
